This past Fall, in an effort to build a more positive relationship between students and Public Safety personnel, Hofstra’s Department of Campus Recreation, in collaboration with the Office of Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion and the Department of Public Safety, hosted a Field Day event where administrators and officers from Public Safety were teamed up with students in a number of different competitions and activities. The event provided students with a chance to meet officers outside of their enforcement duties in a positive situation and helped to create a better relationship between students and Public Safety. More than 150 students and 15 officers participated in activities such as basketball, volleyball, cornhole, and spikeball, yet again showing the power recreation and sport can have in building healthy relationships on college campuses.
