Region 1 has a rich history of outstanding professionals who continually inspire us through their hard work, passion, and drive to move the profession forward.  The NIRSA Regional Awards of Merit recognize a professional from each NIRSA Region who demonstrates exceptional performance or dedication to NIRSA or the field of collegiate recreation on a statewide or regional basis.

This years award recipient is Dr. Gordon Nesbitt, Associate Professor of Wellness and Sport Sciences, Director of Campus Recreation and Intramurals at Millersville University.  Some of the comments from his nominations were:

  • In the last five years, Gordon has hosted the PIRSA State Workshop and the NIRSA Region I Conference.  Professionals who have served in this role know the time commitment and challenges it takes to produce such large events, and Gordon did a tremendous job both times providing education and networking for all participants.
  • Gordon is very dedicated to research in the field of recreation.  He has published several articles related to collegiate recreation as well as written portions of NIRSA publications.  Additionally, Gordon serves on the editorial board for the Recreational Sports Journal.
  • While Gordon is more of a quiet leader within Region I, he is the kind of dedicated and respected leader.

Congratulations to Gordon!
